Explore the white sandy beaches and blue water
the Coromandel region is famous for.
Arguably one of the most picturesque spots in the Coromandel and New Zealand, Cathedral Cove is accessible only on foot or by boat and a must visit site on the Peninsula. The 1hr track to it begins at the northern end of Hahei and leads along the cliftop then descends to the cove. Here a gigantic arched cavern passes through a white rock headland to join two secluded coves. The cathedral-like arch gives the whole area an air of grandeur. The beach is quintessenally Coromandel, sandy with shady Pohutukawa trees along the foreshore; a perfect place to swim, snorkel, kayak, picnic and take many amazing photos.

Hahei is a popular holiday destination, it has the most spectacular and popular pink sandy beach and is close to the famous Cathedral Cove on the eastern side of the Coromandel Peninsula. A great spot to swim and relax in the sun, although be aware it can be less shletered than the other beaches, with rips forming. The town centre offers a great selection of bars and cafes. Water Taxis to Cathedral Cove and Kayaking activities are based here.

Hot Water Beach
A long golden sandy beach with great surf. Dig your own hot pool meters from the Pacific Ocean at the world famous Hot Water Beach two hours either side of low tide. Bring a spade or hire one. From the hot water area, the long sandy beach stretches north and curves under a headland, here you’ll find sheltered and secluded spots. For surfers Hot Water Beach has good beach breaks in moderate easterly swells, however the presence of strong undertows means this beach is often dangerous for swimming, so always obey the life guards flags and swim beetween them. The town offers a local dairy, cafe and an art gallery.
